IT governance is a subject that is often, wrongly, regarded as bureocratic and boring. IT governance, however,  means nothing less as the basic rules guiding decision-making about and within IT.  

Make sure your processes and your form of organization is aligned with the IT governance, else your company certainly will not be efficient.

The big shift towards agile way of working is also related to IT governance.
The border between "business" and "IT" begins to blur. The idea ist to make collaborative decisions based on a transparent set of priorities. But can you really hope to implement this with an IT governance based on an internal client - provider relation that treats IT as a cost center only?
